Chile troubles continue as Borghi rejects coach post
SANTIAGO, July 14 (Reuters) Chile's troubles continued on Friday as Claudio Borghi, the leading candidate to replace Nelson Acosta as national team coach, said he did not want the job.
Borghi, who has won three consecutive domestic titles with Colo Colo, said he was angry at criticism of him by a member of the Chilean federation.
He said he would no longer meet the directors on Monday as had been planned.
''I'm out of the national team,'' the Argentine told reporters yesterday. ''I'm not interested in being judged beforehand. I'm not interested when people who don't know me give their opinions about me.
''I'm not going to any meeting. I want to keep myself on the sidelines,'' he said. ''The job is very attractive but the cost is very high.'' Borghi's withdrawal came after comments by Guillermo Vera, vice-president of the federation.
Chile were thumped 6-1 by Brazil in their Copa America quarter-final in Venezuela last Saturday, shortly after reports of indiscipline at the team hotel in Puerto Ordaz.
Acosta resigned as coach on Tuesday, when six players were given a 20-match international ban by the federation for their parts in the incident.
