Chirag demolish Vasco in a four-goal thriller

By Staff

Kolkata, Nov 25 (UNI) Chirag United exhibited a marvelous performance against Vasco Sports Club overpowering the Goan side 3-1 at the Salt Lake Stadium in the I-League today.

Chirag were in an attacking mood right from the very first minute amd were led 1-0 at half-time.

They had a couple of half chances early on before Snehashish Chakraborty's cross from the left side in the 10th minute almost slotted in for the home side. It was fended off for a corner.

Chirag continued its attack while Vasco were sent on the backfoot. Chirag came close in the 13th minute but the Vasco goalkeeper was sharp in his reflexes and fended off the threat.

By then, Chirag had already started playing aggressively and Bedemi Daniel saw a yellow card in the 12th minute.

Three minutes fast forward and it was Dulal Biswas who was shown the yellow card.

But Biswas didn't manage to temper his aggressive game and was sent off after he was found guilty of elbowing Vasco striker Ravshan Teshabaev in the 19th minute.

Therefore, Chirag went down to 10 men but they didn't lose their attacking style or momentum and continued pressing the visitors.

Guaranga Dutta hit the Vasco crossbar in the 22nd minute after a sharply chiseled cross from Muritala Ali. Chirag continued creating half chances for the remainder of the half leaving the Vasco defence in sixes and sevens as the latter were unable to defend crosses.

Vasco then made a change in the 43rd minute when Vincent Pires came on for Yorkin Nazarov but that didn't manage to tone down the Chirag force as they took a deserved lead in injury time of the first half.

A cross from the left side of the Vasco penalty area saw Muritala miss the chance to score but the ball was weirdly tapped into his own goal by Vasco player Fulgano Cardozo.

Chirag made a substitution at half time when Sukhen Dey came on for Sankan Oraon but continued on with the attack mode.

The Vasco players still lacked enthusiasm and spirit and were on the defensive and Chirag took advantage of the situation when Snehashish Chakraborty tapped in his side's second of the match in the 54th minute after Muritala's ground pass from the right found him.

Chirag then come close on a few other occasions after that but Vasco also started to create chances of their own.

Ravashan could have scored a free header in the 79th minute from a corner but the ball flew wide of the Chirag goal.

Chirag then scored their third goal as Muritala added his name to the scoresheet after he turned home Dhanarajan's cross in the 89th minute.

That had sealed the match for Chirag but apparently Vasco had some other ideas. A few moments later Vasco player Nazarov Sherzod found Chirag goalkeeper Gopal Das slightly off his line and lobbed the ball from the centre-cirlce earing a late consolation for Vasco.

That didn't alter the outcome of the match though as Chirag still gathered three points from this encounter.
