CM for committee to appoint coaches, review performances

Panaji, Jun 25 (UNI) Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today favoured constitution of a committee for appointing coaches and reviewing performances of various disciplines in the sports field.

He was participating in the course of discussion at the general body meeting of the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), held under his chairmanship, in presence of Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar at the secretariat today.

The meeting was also attended by Francisco Silveira, Parliamentary Secretary, former Panchayat Minister Shri subhash Shirodkar, Members and Representative of various sports federation, among others.

Mr Kamat expressed satisfaction at the progress being made in execution of various projects and implementation of schemes, while directing the SAG to ensure judicious use of money.

Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar said the process for enacting the sports policy would be taken up soon and sought sanction of additional funds for sports.

The meeting deliberated on various issued, such as review of constitution, rules and regulations of SAG, in line with the present trend of responsive governance with transparency and accountability, grant of approval for various posts including preliminary coaches in the various games and enhancement of residential coaching camp allowances.

The meeting also discussed approval of deputation of teams for second Lusofonia Games to, be held at Portugal in 2009, promotion of tribal sports, revision of membership fees for various games and sports, approval of various maintenance works carried out at the stadiums, swimming pools, Indoor halls and those developmental works planned in the current fiscal.
