Lahore, Nov 30 (UNI) Former captain and newly appointed PCB Director General Javed Miandad has stressed that proper coaching should be provided at the grass-root level for improving the standard of cricket in the country.
Miandad held a three-hour long meeting with Sindh Chief Coach and former Test paceman Jalaluddin, coaches Azam Khan, Haaris Ahmed Khan, Sagheer Abbas including members of National Senior Selection Committee Shoaib Muhammad and Basit Ali.
''It is imperative for the upliftment of the game that proper coaching is provided at the lower level,'' he told the analysts, physios and others connected with the game during the meeting.
He further directed them to divert their energies for the improvement of the game at the grass-root level.
Miandad urged the coaches and other staff members to visit schools and colleges and impart training and coaching to young players in order to get a technically better brand of cricketers in the future.
The former skipper also asked the coaching staff ''to play their role in improving club cricket as this was the most important area in the development and promotion of cricket''.
''Meanwhile, the PCB is preparing a comprehensive plan for free coaching and training of promising cricketers,'' he informed.
