Coby White Embodies Charlotte Hornets Competitive Spirit, Coach Lee Says

Charlotte Hornets head coach Charles Lee lauds Coby White for personifying the team's competitive spirit after a 109-93 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. White, from the bench, delivered 20 points in three games with Charlotte, reinforcing his role as a vocal, experienced leader on and off the court.

Charlotte Hornets extended their winning run to four games with a 109-93 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, keeping faint playoff hopes alive in the Eastern Conference. The result lifted Charlotte to ninth place with a 30-31 record, maintaining pressure on rivals.

Brandon Miller led Charlotte’s scoring against Portland with 26 points and eight rebounds in an efficient display. However, Coby White drew major attention from the bench, contributing 20 points and offering steady control in key spells on both ends of the floor.

Coby White embodies Hornets competitive spirit

White arrived from the Chicago Bulls and faced the former team on debut, then followed with two more strong appearances for Charlotte. Across those three games, White handled a sixth-man role, providing scoring bursts and experienced decision-making in tight moments.

Head coach Charles Lee highlighted how quickly White settled into Charlotte’s system and culture. Between the competitive spirit and wanting to have togetherness on and off the court, he embodies that. I think that we see his competitiveness on both ends of the floor, Lee said. When he's on the bench, he's engaged, being a vocal leader; he's been through a lot of experiences. Our guys respect him as a player, but also as a professional.

Miles Bridges underlined White’s influence on the Hornets’ recent surge and the importance of reliable bench scoring. Just a dynamic veteran guard off the bench. He's doing a great job, Bridges said. He can score 20-30 [points] each night if he wanted to, but just to have him as a sixth man, that's great for us. He's playing in his hometown. So, it feels extra good for him and should be comfortable. We're trying to make him comfortable here on his team, and we're happy to have him.

The franchise also highlighted White’s connection with teammates through social content and on-court moments.

With Charlotte chasing a playoff spot from ninth place, White’s scoring, leadership and fast adjustment strengthen the rotation. Combined with Miller’s production and Bridges’ presence, the Hornets now carry greater depth as the regular season moves into its closing stretch.
