Napheesa Collier Focuses On Winning Championship Rather Than Individual Awards

Napheesa Collier is dedicated to securing a championship for the Minnesota Lynx this season, prioritising team success over individual accolades like MVP. With a strong start to the WNBA season, she aims to lead her team to victory.

Napheesa Collier is prioritising team success over individual accolades, despite her coach's belief that she could be the MVP. The Minnesota Lynx secured an 85-81 victory against the Dallas Wings, marking their second win over them in five days. Collier led the charge with 28 points and eight rebounds, contributing to the Lynx's undefeated start of 3-0 this season.

Collier has consistently scored over 20 points in each of the first three games, showcasing a strong start to the WNBA season. Her performance has prompted Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve to suggest that Collier might be in contention for the MVP award if she maintains this form. Last year, Collier was second in MVP voting behind A'ja Wilson but clinched the Defensive Player of the Year title.

Collier Aims for Championship with Lynx

Reeve expressed confidence in Collier's potential to achieve an MVP-worthy season. "Next step for her is obviously to have a season worthy of being MVP," Reeve stated. "I think that's what she's capable of doing. We all know that. Our fortunes hinge on her ability to do that."

Collier emphasised her commitment to team achievements over personal recognition. "I'm really just focused on team stuff," she said. "We got so close to the championship last year. That's my number one goal." Her dedication remains on securing a championship for the Lynx, believing other accolades will follow naturally.

The Lynx reached last year's WNBA Finals but fell short against New York Liberty in a closely contested series lasting five games. This season, Collier aims to lead her team to victory and secure the championship title they narrowly missed.

Reeve highlighted Collier's impact on both ends of the court as crucial for their success. She noted, "It's got to be on both ends of the floor, for sure." Reeve believes even a slight improvement from last year's performance could secure Collier an MVP title if other players don't excel significantly.

As the season progresses, Collier remains focused on leading her team towards achieving their ultimate goal: winning a championship. Her consistent performance and dedication are key factors driving the Lynx's early success this season.
