Indian fans were left disappointed after archer Deepika Kumari suffered an exit from the women's individual event at the Paris Olympics 2024 following a 4-6 defeat to South Korea's Nam Suhyeon in the quarterfinals.
The match, held at the Invalides arena, left many fans frustrated and vocal on social media about the unexpected outcome as the senior Indian archer lost to a youngster from South Korea.

Fans took to social media platforms to express their disappointment, with many highlighting the six in the second set as the pivotal moment where Deepika's medal hopes began to wane.
The consensus was that she faltered at the most crucial times, which was heartbreaking for supporters who had high expectations from the seasoned archer. Here are some of the reactions on X:
"Indian archery has been a disappointment, if you are going to hit 6,7,8 in the crucial matches then the match is gone, I don't see consistent low scores from the opponents of other countries," one user posted on X.
Another fan saw the funny side of Deepika hitting sixes comparing it to cricket, while another posted about the heights of disappointment from the senior archer, who had a great chance to enter the medal rounds.
"#DeepikaKumari is a colossal disappointment in the last three Olympics, she should retire and let some fresh blood prosper," another fan posted on X.
The 19-year-old South Korean prodigy, Nam Suhyeon, managed to edge out the experienced Deepika Kumari. In the first set, Deepika started strong, scoring 28 to Nam's 26.
However, the second set saw a significant stumble from the Indian archer, with a score of 25 compared to Nam's 28, largely due to a costly six in her second shot. This moment of hesitation seemed to unsettle Deepika, setting the tone for the subsequent sets.
By the third set, Deepika regained some composure, scoring 29 against Nam's 28, putting her ahead 4-2. Yet, Nam equalized in the fourth set with a solid 29 to Deepika's 27, bringing the score to 4-4.
The final set proved decisive, as Nam's flawless performance (10, 9, 10) outmatched Deepika's (9, 9, 9), leading to a 6-4 victory for the South Korean.
Deepika Kumari's Olympic journey has been one of highs and lows, and this match added another chapter to her storied career. Despite the loss, she remains one of India's top archers and a role model for many young athletes.
