Commonwealth Games 2018: Basketball teams to depart for Australia to prepare for Gold Coast CWG

Bengaluru, March 11: The Indian men and women basketball teams will depart for Australia on Monday (March 12) to prepare for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, which will be held from April 4 to 15. The Indian basketball contingent will arrive in Gold Coast three weeks ahead of the start of the main event. Indian players will be on a exposure trip in the Runaway Bay Super Sports Centre, where they will continue their training that was previously going on at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium, Bengaluru, since February 1. This will be only the second time since 2006 that basketball is part of the Commonwealth Games.

Yadwinder Singh, who will play his second CWG, was announced as captain for the men's team. Shireen Limaye was selected as the captain for the women's Team. The men's team is in Pool B alongside England, Cameroon and Scotland. The women's team also features in Pool B alongside New Zealand, Jamaica and Malaysia.
