Glasgow, July 25: Jadumani Singh Mandengbam began the Commonwealth Games with a dominant win against Scottish boxer Aaron Cullen. Also making a winning start was another Indian boxer, Sachin, beating Canadian boxer Keoma AL-Ahmadieh in a 4-1 split decision to move through to the round of 16 in the men's 60 Kg category.

Competing in the 55kg category, Jadumani won by a unanimous decision from all five judges, awarding him a 10-9 win in each of his three rounds on Friday evening. Jadumani will take on Pakistan's Sumama Rehman in the Round of 16. Rehman had a bye in the Round of 32.

Commonwealth Games 2026 Boxers Jadumani Singh amp amp Sachin Advance To Round Of 16

Sachin's next opponent in the Round of 16 will be England's William Hewitt, who had a bye in the Round of 32.

Jadumani was dominant throughout the bout, using his superior skill to dodge his opponent and land important scoring punches. He also showcased great sportsmanship and was very courteous towards the referee throughout his bout.

Until recently, he boxed in the men's 50kg weight category. The 21-year-old would often struggle to meet the weight requirements before a match as he would need to shed a lot of weight to meet the criteria. The recent switch to the 55kg category has allowed him to retain some of the weight into his matches as the young Indian is confident of making up for the height disadvantage with superior technique.

Cullen is a talented boxer who came up through the junior ranks, having proven his skill with medals at both the national and international stages as a junior.

Sachin overcame a tough opponent to advance further in the Games. He has previously won a gold medal at the 2025 World Boxing Cup and a silver at the 2026 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships. The gold medal at the World Boxing Cup featured a stunning final, in which Sachin overwhelmed Paris Olympics Silver medallist Munarbek Seitbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan to secure a 5-0 win.

Commonwealth Games 2026: Preeti, Aditya Headline India's Sunday Action

Other Indian boxers to be seen in action on Sunday evening will include Preeti Pawar competing in the Women's 54Kg round of 16 match against Deborah Mtjenje of Namibia. Preeti won the Gold medal at the 2025 World Boxing Cup and the Gold medal at the Asian U22 Championships in 2024. She is also an Asian Games medallist with a Bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Aditya Pratap Yadav will contest in the round of 16 for the men's 65Kg category on Sunday evening as well. He got a bye in his first round and will meet Uganda's Nuhu Batte, who beat Nigeria's Abdulramon Abdul Wahad 5-0. The 26-year-old is making his debut at the Commonwealth Games. The boxer from Agra had his big breakthrough earlier this year when he defeated national champion Abhinash Jamwal in the finals of the Elite Men's National Boxing Championships to claim his first senior national title.
