Commonwealth Games 2026 Medal Tally: Australia Stays on Top, India Opens Account Through Lovlina Borgohain

The Commonwealth Games have started in full swing, and athletes from 74 nations and territories are currently competing across 10 sports for a total of 645 medals. Australia continues to lead the Commonwealth Games 2026 with a total of 13 medals. The Aussies are followed by hosts Nigeria in second and hosts Scotland in third.

India currently sits in the 9th position having won a bronze medal. India's first medal came after boxer Lovlina Borgohain was assured a bronze medal in the tournament. The Indian boxer earned a bye in her quarterfinal round of the women's 75kg boxing, thus progressing directly to the semifinal. Since every semifinalist wins a medal, that means Lovlina will return with at least a bronze medal.

Lovlina Borgohain has advanced to the semifinals, where she will take on 20-year-old Tuvalu boxer Taafaki on July 31. The Commonwealth Games mark Taafaki's first appearance at a major international competition. She is joined at the event by her brother, Pasoni Taafaki, who is competing in the men's 70kg boxing division.

For Lovlina, the semifinal is another step in her bid for a stronger Commonwealth Games campaign after a frustrating outing in Birmingham in 2022. On that occasion, the Indian boxer was knocked out in the quarterfinals following a closely fought 2-3 defeat to Wales' Rosie Eccles in the women's 70kg category.
