All I can say is have faith in India: Gill on CWG

By Samyuktha

New Delhi, Aug 5: Sports Minister, MS Gill smoothly dodged all the questions on the allegations of corruption slapped against the organisers of Commonwealth Games 2010 and expressed confidence that the Delhi CWG will be a huge success.

"All I can say is have faith in India and India will get ready," Mr Gill told Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Aug 5.

He did not make any direct remarks on the corruption charges. He only said that if anyone was found guilty, then they should be punished.

“If officials are found guilty, remove them," the minister said.

With about two months to go for the games to kick start, the sports minister spoke against launching a probe against the allegations now as it would prove to be a big hurdle for the success of the CWG.

“There is a long procedure into the sanctioning of any expenditure for the event and it has been done with consent from all the concerned departments like the Finance Ministry and the Home Ministry," he told the Upper House of the Parliament.

After he chose not speak on Wednesday, Aug 5, the minister had promised to make a statement regarding the alleged corruption charges against various authorities in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Aug 5.

"The Organising Committee is doing its duty. The officers are there who are working on different issues, they would do their duty. Our target is to properly organise the Games first," Mr Gill said earlier at the inauguration of the upgraded sports facilities at the Jamia Millia Islamia.
