The much-anticipated Tata Mumbai Marathon 2025, a World Athletics Gold Label Race, is set to take place on Sunday, January 19, marking its landmark 20th edition. Known for attracting elite athletes from across the globe, this year's event promises exciting competition and the possibility of new records.
Ethiopian Hayle Lemi Berhanu, the defending men's champion, is poised to achieve a historic milestone with a potential hat-trick of wins following his victories in 2023 and 2024. If successful, Berhanu will become the first athlete in the marathon's two-decade history to claim three consecutive titles.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia's Aberash Minsewo, who won the women's race on her marathon debut in 2024, aims to defend her title against a strong field. The event also features an impressive roster of pacers who will guide the runners through the grueling 42.195 km course.
Among the men's pacers are Belgium's Thomas de Bock (2:10:17), Netherlands' Luck Maas (2:11:47), and debutant Peter Kwalia Kipsirat of Kenya. On the women's side, runners like Tigist Memuye Gebeyahu (2:24:23) and Veronica Njeri Maina (2:24:46) will be supported by pacers to ensure a competitive race pace.
The marathon's prize pool of USD 390,238 includes significant rewards for the top finishers. The first-place winners in both categories will take home USD 50,000, with additional incentives for breaking the course records.
Current event records are held by Ethiopians Hayle Lemi Berhanu (2:07:32) and Anchialem Haymanot (2:24:15), both set in 2023. 11 male and 6 female athletes have personal bests faster than the existing course records.
Hence, the 2025 edition promises to be one of the most competitive yet. Speaking about the elite line-up, Vivek Singh, Joint MD of Procam International, said, "The return of champions like Berhanu and Minsewo is a testament to TMM's growing global appeal."
