Bengaluru, August 29: Conor McGregor is set to return to the UFC this year after he was stopped by Mayweather in the 10th round of Saturday's (August 26) blockbuster fight in Las Vegas, however, as he never went down from the punches he now faces a 'suspension'.

As a result, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has handed down a medical suspension of two months on Tuesday (August 29), which stops McGregor from returning to action until October 26.

McGregor is also ordered to have no contact until at least October 11 but it was never likely the 'Notorious' would return to the octagon that soon.

While the Irishman was non-committal about his future after the loss, he had indicated before the fight he was targeting a UFC return by the end of 2017.

UFC 219 in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve as a possible option for a return, while UFC 218 in Detroit on December 2 is also currently without a headliner.

There are plenty options in terms of who McGregor fights next with the likes of Tony Ferguson, Kevin Lee and of course Khabib Nurmagomedov.

It seemed the most likely option was defending his lightweight belt against the winner of Ferguson vs Kevin Lee - though it would be a short turnaround from their October 7 bout to then take on McGregor two months later.

While, the current no.1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov is another option as the Russian has continued to call McGregor out recently and so is Max Holloway the featherweight title holder, whom McGregor has beaten before is a possible opponent.

McGregor's manager Audie Attar said to MMA junkie: "You've got Khabib calling him out, then you obviously have Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee who are fighting for the interim lightweight title. You have Max Holloway, who is the 145 champ now, who Conor beat after blowing out his ACL at the beginning of the fight. You have options, and he loves mixed martial arts."
