Conor McGregor fuels claims of a fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov

The UFC President Dana White had claimed his lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, wanted to fight No. 1 ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia not very long ago, now the Irishman has confirmed them.

Bengaluru, July 20: The UFC President Dana White had claimed his lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, wanted to fight No. 1 ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia not very long ago.

It appears now that, the Irishman has escalated those claims as he prepares to enter the boxing ring for the first time in his professional fighting career against, the greatest Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor is expected to take on the undefeated 'Money' Mayweather at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada next month on Saturday (August 26) in the main event of the Showtime pay-per-view (PPV).

While on the Mayweather Vs McGregor World Tour, 'the notorious' Irishman was asked about the rumours about him wanting to fight Khabib "The Eagle" in Russia, to which he confirmed they were true.

"That's certainly an option that I'm exploring. That would be a spectacle. It'd be like something out of Rocky. I suppose this whole story is like a Rocky story, right?," McGregor was quoted by MMA Fighting.

Conor added, "So why not face a man in his home country, and a crazy place like Russia. It's certainly something I'd like to do. There's a couple of options on the table so let's see what unfolds."

There are rumours that UFC lightweight champion McGregor wont return to the octagon after the 'billion dollar fight' against Mayweather.

McGregor silenced those claims as well, stating he won't get a scratch in his fight against the undefeated legend Mayweather. But, will take some time to brush up on his wrestling and jiu-jitsu before returning to the UFC again:

"I believe so. I believe I'll come out of this fight without a scratch. [Take] a couple weeks to refresh my jiu-jitsu and my wrestling - not that I've stopped training that either, I've still kept up on that, just less - and then we'll see what happens."

With the rest of UFC lightweight division waiting frustratedly for their opportunity for the title bout as the title was last defended in November last year, when Conor defeated Eddie Alvarez to become a double division champion, we have to see when and if McGregor returns for the next title bout.

Before that we have to see when the Irishman will face Russian Khabib.
