Team USA skateboarder Nyjah Huston recently unveiled a concerning issue that has sparked discussions about potential cost-cutting measures at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Just days after securing a bronze medal in the men's street final, Huston, 29, shared the unfortunate state of his Olympic hardware on social media, shedding light on what appears to be a decline in the quality of the medals awarded at this year's Games.

Huston, known for his impressive record with 12 gold medals in the X Games and six in the World Championships, had high expectations for his Olympic debut in Paris. However, his excitement quickly turned to disappointment when his bronze medal began showing signs of wear and tear far too soon.
In a video posted on Instagram, Huston revealed the bronze coating chipping away after only a short time, exposing the underlying material. 'Alright, so these Olympic medals look great when they're brand new,' he was quoted saying by Daily Mail.
'They're apparently not as high quality as you'd think, It's looking rough.' added Huston.
The skateboarder pointed out that the damage occurred not just from normal handling but simply from letting the medal rest against his skin and sharing it with friends.
The rapid deterioration of such a significant symbol of achievement raises questions about whether cost-cutting measures were implemented in the production of the medals.
'I don't know, Olympic medals, we gotta step up the quality a little bit,' he says in the clip.
Traditionally, Olympic medals are meticulously crafted to be enduring symbols of excellence.
However, Huston's experience suggests that corners may have been cut in an attempt to save costs, resulting in medals that lack the durability and prestige they are meant to represent.
This issue could be indicative of broader budgetary constraints affecting various aspects of the Games. While the Olympics are known for their grandeur, the financial burden of hosting such an event often leads to decisions that prioritize cost over quality.
Unfortunately, this compromise can sometimes manifest in ways that undermine the athletes' experiences and the value of their accomplishments.
