CRC celebrates its cetennial anniversary with fanfare

Kolkata, Nov 24 (UNI) As part of its Sesqui-Centennial anniversary celebrations, Calcutta Rowing Club (CRC) hosted an 'International Friendship Regatta' on the watercourse at Rabindra Sarobar today.

The four-day-affair starting on November 26, will see around 120 participants, mostly veteran rowers, representing international rowing teams from the UK, UAE, South America, Pakistan, Germany, Dubai, Australia and New Zealand and hosts India.

''The rowing competition essentially marks the final phase of our Centennial anniversary celebrations,'' said Samir Sur, President, CRC.

There are different categories in rowing sort namely 'coxed fours and 'coxless fours to mark different levels of participation. The competition would witness rowers from different categories, said K M Ghosh, Chairman Regatta Committee.

Union Sports Minister M S Gill would grace the occasion on the last day of the event to give away the prizes,'' he added.

The international extravaganza was preceeded by an art workshop and exhibition to promote rowing as an exciting watersport across the globe.
