CWG 2026: India Assure Medals Galore as Arundhati Stuns Defending Champion, Jaismine and Others Reach Final

India's boxing contingent delivered another statement performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with seven boxers booking their places in the finals after a dominant day in the semifinals on Friday.

The biggest headline came in the women's 70kg division, where Arundhati Choudhary produced one of the standout victories of the tournament by defeating reigning Commonwealth champion Rosie Eccles of Wales via a 4-0 split decision. The Indian seized control early, forcing Eccles to take a standing count in the opening stages before holding her nerve in an intense and physical contest to secure a place in the gold medal bout.

The Indian pugilist completely dominated Lesotho's challenger, prompting the referee to stop the contest in the second round after her opponent received a third standing count, handing Jaismine victory by Referee Stops Contest (RSC).

In the women's 51kg semifinal, Sakshi Chaudhary showcased superb precision and ring control to cruise to a 5-0 unanimous decision over Canada's Amber-Jane Wall, while Preeti Pawar was equally commanding in the 54kg division. The Asian Games bronze medallist overwhelmed Zambia's Catherine Mwape, earning a unanimous victory after forcing three standing counts and winning the second round 10-8 on all five judges' scorecards.

Priya Ghanghas also advanced with authority, defeating England's Lucy Kings-Wheatley by a 5-0 unanimous decision in the women's 60kg semifinal to move within one victory of Commonwealth Games gold.

India's men continued the momentum. Jadumani Singh dominated Namibia's P.P.M. Haoseb to register another 5-0 unanimous decision in the 55kg category, while Ankush Panghal outclassed Joshua Ofori in the men's 80kg semifinal by the same margin. Ankush controlled the bout with sharp combinations and superior movement, comfortably absorbing his opponent's late aggression before sealing a convincing victory. Later in the day, Lovlina Borgohain also advanced to the final.

With eight finalists now confirmed, India has guaranteed at least eight silver medals in boxing and will head into the finals with multiple opportunities to convert those into gold.
