CWG mixed doubles: Bopanna-Nirupama crash out

New Delhi, Oct 4: Indian pair Bopanna and Nirupama Sanjeev was defeated by top seeded Australian team Paul Hanley and Anastasia Rodionova in the first match of the mixed doubles event in Commonwealth Games on Monday, Oct 4.

Indian pair fought well against the top seed team but could not continue winning momentum through out the game. Australians got got points at crucial junctures to ensure they do not become a first day casualty and defeated Indians 3-6, 6-3, 3-6.

Australians gained a early 3-0 lead by breaking Bopanna's serve in the first set. Bopanna and Nirupama fought back hardly but failed to overcome their opponents.

Bopanna and Nirupama made a stunning comeback from a set down. They put up a spirited show under pressure, creating a big 5-0 lead by breaking both Hanley and Rodionova early in the second set.

In the third set, justifying their top seed ranking, Australian pair dominated the set and secured their hopes in the tournament.
