CWG: Weightlifters bag two more medals for India

New Delhi, Oct 5: On the first day of Commonwealth Games 2010, India started the medal chase on a bright note, after women weightlifters Soniya Chanu and Sandhya Rani Devi, India bags two more medals in men's weightlifting competition.

Sukhen Dey and Srinivasa Rao Valluri won silver and bronze, respectively, in the men's 56kg weightlifting competition of Commonwealth Games, on Monday, Oct 4.

Sukhen Dey lifted a total of 252 kg (snatch 112, clean and jerk 140) and where as Srinivasa Rao had an overall lift of 248 kg (snatch 107, clean and jerk 141).

Malaysian Ibrahim Amirul Hamizan won the gold with a lift of 257 kg (snatch 116, clean and jerk 141). He created a new Games record in snatch beating his own 115 kg at Manchester 2002.
