Cycle racing Mountain to begin tomorrow

Shimla, Oct 4 (UNI) The country's only mountain cycle racing event, the Hercules MB - Himachal, is all set to test the endurance of men and machines through the one of the most toughest, longest and highest hill ranges, as the event takes off tomorrow from Shimla.

In all, 90 bikers, including 26 from foreign countries, are expected to take part in the nine-day event, covering a distance of 650 km before coming to an end at the famous tourist resort of Manali.

The participants would pass through Jalori Pass, situated at an altitude of over 3,223 meters, providing a panoramic view of Shimla, Kulu and Mandi districts of the state.

Interacting with mediapersons here, Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA) President Mohit Sood said that the route this year was almost similar to the one in 2006.

However, a few additions have been made to make the competition tougher than its preceding avatars, he said, adding that the prize money for the event has been fixed at Rs six lakh.

The MTB Himachal is the only of its kind cycle race in the country and is being held on an annual basis.
