Cycling-Russia's Karpets wins Tour of Switzerland

GENEVA, Switzerland, June 24 (Reuters) Russia's Vladimir Karpets of the Caisse d'Epargne team won the Tour of Switzerland than ended in Berne today.

Karpets finished sixth in the ninth-stage individual time trial around Berne but gained enough time on his overall rivals to move from third to first place.

Luxembourg's Kim Kirchen finished second overall, one minute and four seconds behind Karpets. Belgium's Stijn Devolder was third at 1:30.

World time trial champion Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland won the 33.7-m time trial in a time of 41:46.

The next major race on cycling's ProTour calendar is the Tour de France that starts in London on July 7.
