Daly has no intention of changing his lifestyle

ARLANDASTADT, Sweden, Aug 15 (Reuters) Twice major champion John Daly made it clear today he has no intention of changing his lifestyle despite the advice from and the example set by world number Tiger Woods.

After winning the U.S. PGA championship on Sunday, Woods said his opponents could have combated Tulsa's notorious heat better if they had worked out like he does. Daly briefly led at Southern Hills before fading to tie for 32nd place.

Daly, who weighs 100 kgs and who has had well-documented battles with alcohol and gambling addictions, was his usual irreverent self on the eve of the European Tour Scandinavian Masters.

''I think I did better than most players last week who do work out,'' Daly told a news conference.

''I don't think it matters if you work out or if you don't work out. I'm used to the heat. Fat boys like me can get through the heat.

''I tried but every time I worked out I threw up and I thought to myself you can get drunk and throw up, so it's just not for me.

''I'm flexible enough, there are probably some things I could do to keep my flexibility up, but I'd rather smoke, drink diet Cokes and eat. I get enough exercise walking five or six miles (eight to 10 kms) a day.'' Daly said there were some aspects of Woods's game he would like to copy.

''I wish I had his game,'' he said. ''I think the thing that separates Tiger from everybody is that he makes putts more than we do, right now he is like a one-man field.'' Three more past American major winners play at Arlandastadt; last year's US Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman, his vice-captain at the K Club Corey Pavin and Jeff Sluman.

Daly and Lehman have both won regular European Tour events, while Pavin and Sluman have both finished third in Scandinavian events.

Holder Marc Warren of Britain plays alongside Daly and tournament host Jesper Parnevik in the first two rounds.

Per-Ulrik Johannson, who ended a 10-year wait for another European Tour title when he won last week's Russian Open, is in a strong Swedish contingent.
