Damian Lillard Expresses Joy In Returning To Portland Trail Blazers After Injury Recovery

Damian Lillard is excited to return to the Portland Trail Blazers. He has reportedly signed a three-year deal with a player option for 2027-28 and a no-trade clause. Lillard spent his first 11 seasons in Portland before moving to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2023, where injuries hampered his performance over two years.

Despite his enthusiasm, Lillard won't be playing soon due to a ruptured left Achilles tendon sustained during the Bucks' playoff loss to the Indiana Pacers. Although he's not expected on the court this season, he hasn't completely dismissed the possibility of returning earlier than anticipated.

Lillard expressed joy about being back in Portland, saying, "Just knowing that I'm going to be back home for all parts of my life, with my kids, playing for the Trail Blazers, driving on the same streets that I've driven on pretty much my entire adulthood, my whole family being here, my mom, my brother, my sisters, all my friends around the city of Portland." He added that he didn't expect this return so soon.

Lillard remains optimistic about overcoming his injury. Reflecting on when he first got hurt, he shared: "After I tore my Achilles... I grabbed it and I rolled over and sat up. And the first thought that I had to myself was, 'I'm about to come back from an Achilles'. That was literally my first thought." He emphasized his determination by stating that others felt more pity for him than he did himself.

He continued by saying that even though people around him were emotional about his injury, he remained focused on recovery. "I had the PTs about to cry and all that stuff. I didn't cry. Even when I got by myself, I didn't cry," Lillard said. His mindset was clear: "I gotta fight for something."

Mental Resilience and Determination

Lillard acknowledged this injury as possibly the most significant of his career but remains mentally strong. He stated confidently: "But this one I know is probably the biggest one of my career... it's a mental battle. But I don't lose those." His resilience and determination are evident as he prepares for what lies ahead.
