DDCA eyeing 'makeover'

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) In a bid to promote cricket, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has tied up with DDA and decided to undertake the mission of developing four grounds located in different areas acrosss the city.

DDCA, sports secretary Sunil Dev said here last night,''the venues will be developed and maintained by DDCA with the objective of running state approved Cricket Academies to help aspiring cricketers to sharpen their skills and improve upon their existing abilities.'' These academies will be managed and run by National Cricket Academy (NCA) approved Level 3 coaches with the purpose of bringing quality trainers.

The grounds will also be used to conduct the state association backed cricket matches round the year.

Dev also revealed that ''from this year onwards the DDCA cricket league will take its first step towards a makeover.'' ''The makeover entails the start of Delhi's first Forty-40 cricket league with international and domestic stars coming together and participating in the league through the course of the next 8 months,'' he added.

''Since the seasons unfolded, our unyielding focus has been to provide the emerging cricketers from the state an opportunity to learn fron the legends and guru's of the game be it batting or bowling.

''This entire initiative saw legends like former cricketer Wasim Akram, Gundappa Vishwanath, Terry Jenner and many other greats sharing their knowledge with the cricketers from Delhi across all age groups,'' he added.
