Bryson DeChambeau sees Scottie Scheffler's victory at The Open as a source of motivation for himself and other golfers. DeChambeau, who tied for 10th place with a score of seven-under, had a challenging start with a seven-over-par round of 78 on Thursday. This was his worst performance in a major tournament. However, he rebounded with rounds of 65, 68, and 64, matching the best score of the tournament.
DeChambeau's initial struggles were due to harsh weather conditions at Royal Portrush. As the weather improved, so did his performance. He expressed his thoughts to reporters, saying: "It was fair conditions the past few days. I always told you guys, I like it when it's fair conditions. I can play well." He acknowledged that he still needs to improve in rainy and windy conditions but feels he's getting closer to finding solutions.

Reflecting on his performance, DeChambeau shared how he turned things around after being three-under in the third round. He thought about shooting four- or five-under on the back nine to give himself a chance on Sunday. His final round of 64 brought him to nine-under overall.
DeChambeau praised Scheffler's current form, recalling their college days together when Scheffler wasn't as skilled. "Scottie's in a league of his own right now," he said. "I played with him a lot in college, and he was not that good! So he's figured out a lot of stuff since then." DeChambeau admires Scheffler's progress and believes there's much to learn from him.
Throughout the competition, DeChambeau maintained a positive mindset by reminding himself that every moment is crucial. He aimed to give himself opportunities without dwelling on setbacks. On Sunday, he embraced freedom in his playstyle, inspired by Scheffler's approach.
DeChambeau received enthusiastic support from fans after sinking an 11-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole. He attributes his growing popularity to his efforts in promoting golf across different platforms. "I look at the game a little bit differently to others," he explained. While winning is important to him, he values influencing younger generations and showcasing himself positively.
He recognises that fans are crucial to players' earnings and has shifted his mindset towards engaging them more effectively. By focusing on creating value beyond tournaments through YouTube content and entertainment, DeChambeau aims to contribute positively to golf's growth.
DeChambeau enjoys sharing fun challenges and showing his true self through various media outlets. This approach allows him to remain relevant even when not performing at his best in tournaments.
Currently ranked sixth in the United States' qualification standings for September's Ryder Cup, DeChambeau hopes to bring energy and enthusiasm to Team USA if selected for Keegan Bradley's team. When asked about the upcoming event, he expressed excitement about potentially rallying support from passionate fans for Team USA during the competition.
DeChambeau remains focused on improving his game while also contributing positively off-course through engaging content creation efforts aimed at expanding golf’s reach globally among diverse audiences interested in sports entertainment experiences beyond traditional tournament settings alone.
