Deepika Kumari bows out of Olympics

London, Aug 1: It was a huge setback for Indian archery as their main medal hope, Deepika Kumari crashed out from London Olympics 2012 here on Wednesday.

Great Britain's Amy Oliver defeated Deepika 6-2 in the elimination round of 32 at the Lord's cricket ground.

Oliver won the first set after shooting 8, 10 (inner), 9. Deepika had 8, 9, 9 in the first set.

However, the 18-year-old Indian came back well in the second set with scores of 9, 8, 9. But the hosts' archers took the next two sets to progress further and put Deepika out of the competition.

Deepika failed to hit even one score of 10. Oliver had 3 10s and one inner 10.

It was a windy day at Lord's today. With Deepika's exit, Indian challenge in archery has ended.

It was a forgettable campaign for Indian archers. They were expected to win a medal but will return empty-handed from London.
