Delhi Audit pip AG Punjab for team title

Chandigarh, Jul 9 (UNI) Delhi Audit snatched an exciting 3-2 verdict against Accountant General Punjab in the team championship final of the North Zone Indian Audit and Accounts Department Badminton Championship at the Sector 42 Badminton Hall here today.

Amit gave Punjab 1-0 lead by beating Rajiv Sharma in the first singles match 14-21, 24-22, 17-21. The lead shortlived as Sunil outpointed Lav Kumar 21-12, 21-11 to make it one-all.

Then Delhi Audit forged ahead as Apinderpal Singh and Rajiv beat Ashish &Amit 19-21, 21-14, 21-19. However, Vijay of Delhi Audit lost to Ashish 21-19, 19-21, 22-24 as Punjab made it two-all. In the deciding doubles Vijay and Sunil of Delhi Audit beat Vikas and Lav Kumar 21-10, 21-14 to clinch the thrilling victory.

Ashish of Accountant General of Punjab claimed a double by winning the men's singles and doubles title. In the singles final Ashish beat Vijay of Delhi Audit 21-16, 21-15 and later in partnership with Amit beat Apinderpal Singh and Sunil of Delhi Audit 21-15, 21-16 in the doubles final.

Mohinder Singh, Accountant General (A&E) Haryana, Chandigarh gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up.

Men's singles: Ashish bt Vijay 21-16, 21-15. Men's doubles: Ashish and Amit bt Apinderpal Singh and Sunil 21-15, 21-16.
