Delhi CM optimistic of hosting 2014 Asiad

New Delhi, Apr 6 (UNI) After winning the bid for 2010 Commonwealth Games, Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Sheila Dikshit is again hopeful of hosting yet another sporting mega event and this time her eyes are on the 2014 Asian Games.

''We are hosting the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. In a few days time the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is going to bid for the 2014 Asian Games in Kuwait and I am hopeful that we will again get the opportunity to host the Games for the second time,'' an optimistic CM told on the sidelines of the innauguration of B D Chandiwala Sports Centre here today.

New Delhi is competing with Icheon, South Korea for 2014 Asian Games. If it wins the bid for the games, then it would be for the second time that Delhi would be hosting the Asiad - first time being in the year 1982.

Lauding the efforts of Banarasidas Chandiwala Sewa Smarak Trust for setting up the sports complex in the heart of the capital, she said, ''It is wonderful to see such a such a multi-disciplinary sports complex in the midst of the city,'' and added that Delhi government is also planning to set up 70 such sports complex in order to encourage the young talents to actively participate in sports.

Highlighting the main objective behind the Rs eight crore project, secretary of the trust, Bhuwan Mohan said, ''The main idea behind this complex is to primarily promote sports in the country and to encourage young talents to upgrade their skills further.'' UNI
