Delhi Giants declared winner in rain-marred match

By Staff

Hyderabad Sep 22 (UNI) A rain-interrupted match saw the application of V Jayadevan (VJD) method in the Indian Cricket League (ICL) 20-20 domestic cricket tournament featuring Ahmedabad Rockets against formidable Delhi giants here today.

In the end, Delhi giants topped by 14 runs and its all-rounder J P Yadav was declared 'Man of the match' for his attacking display, scoring 22 runs off 21 balls, with two fours and a six and also for his impressive and economic bowling spell when he accounted a mere 17 runs in four overs.

The Rockets won the toss and elected to bat on a newly-laid track. Left arm pacer Shalabh Srivastava (Delhi Gaints) made use of the helpful conditions by sending back both the openers. They were in further trouble when their batting mainstay S Sriram was foxed by Ali Murtaza's vicious spin for three.

In reply, the Giants got off to a flying start, with both Bali and Mishra taking the total to 31 in the fourth over. Rockets, however, struck back when their medium-pacer Baburao Yadav, scalped the wicket of Bali for 20.

At the end of 11th over, Giants were comfortably placed at 78 for two with both Abbas and Yadav looking good at the crease. It was at that point the rain intervened, washing out the chances of any further play.

Brief Scores: Ahmedabad Rockets 130/5 in 20 overs(R S Sodhi 43, K Sanjeev 29, Murtaza 2/16) lost by 14 runs (VJD method) to Delhi Giants 78/2 in 11 overs (JP Yadav 22, A Bali 20, B yadav 2/17.) UNI XR/BR DB rkm nd2158
