Chandigarh, Jun 20 (UNI) Delhi players emerged winners in the girls Under-12, girls Under-16 and boys Under-16 singles of the AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament which concluded at the CLTA Sports Complex here today.
Second seed Ankit Chaudhary (boys Under-16), top seed Samriti (girls Under-12) and unseeded Nikita (girls Under-16) won titles in their respective categories.
Jatinder Singh, a trainee of Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association, denied Delhi a clean sweep of titles in singles as he overcame a stiff resistance from a never-say-die Fatehdeep Singh of Punjab in three closely contested sets in the boys Under-12 singles final.
Both players, talented and skillful, were hitting hard from first-to-last shots. Fatehdeep was 4-1 up in the deciding set after splitting the first two. Then he served poorly in two games and committed more than half a dozen double faults which became the turning point in favour of Jatinder Singh. The hotly-contested final lasted 130 minutes.
After surrendering the first set at 1-6, unseeded Nikita settled down to shatter the hopes of fourth seed Abhilasha Mehra in an all-Delhi girls Under-16 final. Nikita rallied to win by 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Second seed Ankit Chaudhary played a confident game to defeat his team mate Abhimanyu Singh 6-3, 6-2 in the boys Under-16 singles final. Top seed Samriti proved too good for unseeded Devika Chakravarti, also of Delhi, 6-3, 6-1 in the girls Under-12 singles final.
Former Director General of Police, Punjab, Sarabjit Singh distributed the prizes.
