Delhi Police to assist NSG for security of Indian team at World Cup
New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Delhi Police will assist the National Security Guards in providing security to the Indian cricket team during the forthcoming World Cup, beginning on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner of police Madhup Tiwari today left for the West Indies, where the World Cup is to be held from March 11 to April 28, to assist the NSG in coordinating and providing security for the members of the Indian Cricket team during the World Cup, a spokesperson of the Delhi Police said.
Delhi Police sources said the departure of DCP Tiwari comes following a letter to the Delhi Police by the Home Ministry to send a team of Delhi Police officials to West Indies to assist the NSG in cordinating security for the Indian cricketers.
A team of the NSG is already in the West Indies to assist organisers of the Cricket World Cup to provide security to the players, especially the Indian squad.
Delhi Police and NSG personnel will keep a strict watch at World Cup venues where the team is scheduled to play its matches, the spokesperson said.
India will play all its preliminary group matches at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain.
