New Delhi, Aug 01: Top seed Dharminder Lilly played an authoritative game to beat Manan Chandra 111-89 to win the inaugural National one-cushion carombole championship here.
The win has assured Lilly a place in the Indian cue sport team for the 2nd Indoor Asian Games in Macau, China, from October 27 to November 3.
Lilly was at his best in making canons. He dished out a break of 10 canon to assert his supremacy before going on to score consistent canons to win the title and Rs 15,000 first prize.
Lilly had beaten Sumit Talwar 84-59 in the semifinals earlier in the day and played fluently in the final to leave Manan pondering over. National pool champion Manan, who beat National snooker champion Alok Kumar 81-77 in the other semifinal, was more guarded in his approach.
Though Manan opened the scoring, Lilly caught up with him in the 20th visit when he made a 10 canon break. Another break of seven and a few of five helped him to establish a good lead by the 40th visit. Lilly led 85-55, and the writing was on the wall.
Lilly crossed the 100-point mark in the 55th visit before he went on to post the highest score of the championship at 111.
In the play-off for the third place, Alok Kumar defeated Sumit Talwar by six points, 43-37 in a match played over 30 visits.
