Diksha Dagar Fights Back with Brilliant Finish to Stay in Scottish Open Contention

India's Diksha Dagar displayed remarkable resilience during the opening round of the ISPS Handa Scottish Open, bouncing back from a nightmare start to post a 2-over 74 and finish tied for 33rd at Dundonald Links.

Battling strong winds and challenging scoring conditions, the Hero-backed golfer appeared headed for a disappointing round after slipping to six-over through her first 10 holes. However, Diksha produced an outstanding finish, playing her final eight holes in four-under with four birdies to climb back into contention ahead of the second round.

Her 74 proved to be a competitive score on a day when the demanding layout allowed only 13 players to break par, while just seven others managed to finish at even par. With the cut coming after Friday's round, the Indian remains well positioned to secure a place over the weekend.

The 24-year-old was also the leading Indian after the opening day. Diksha has enjoyed a consistent Ladies European Tour campaign this season, already registering four top-10 finishes.

Fellow Indians Avani Prashanth and Pranavi Urs struggled to cope with the testing conditions. Avani carded an 8-over 80 to sit tied for 116th alongside Hero Women's Indian Open champion Shannon Tan, while Pranavi signed for a 12-over 84, leaving her tied for 138th.

At the top of the leaderboard, Korea's Jenny Shin and American Lauren Coughlin shared the lead after impressive rounds of 6-under 66. Coughlin, fresh from her Aramco Championship triumph earlier this year, delivered a blemish-free round to match Shin's score.

Korea's A Lim Kim occupied third place at 5-under 67, while Germany's Esther Henseleit, Japan's Erika Hara and Miyu Yamashita, and Sweden's Anna Nordqvist were tied for fifth on 3-under 69.

Among the pre-tournament favourites, World No. 1 Nelly Korda and Ireland's Leona Maguire both settled for even-par 72s as the windy conditions made low scoring difficult throughout the day.

Diksha's round was a tale of two contrasting halves. She dropped shots on the first, second and fourth holes before picking up her first birdie on the seventh. A triple bogey on the par-4 eighth further dented her card, and she made the turn at five-over.

When another bogey followed on the 10th, Diksha found herself six-over and in danger of falling well behind the field. Instead, she mounted a superb fightback with birdies on the 11th and 14th before closing with consecutive birdies on the 17th and 18th, capping an excellent recovery to limit the damage and keep her hopes alive heading into the second round.
