Discus thrower Poonia qualifies for the Olympics
California, Apr 23 (UNI) Woman discus thrower Krishna Poonia has qualified for the Beijing Olympics after finishing fourth in a invitational event here from April 17 to 20.
Crossing the qualification mark of 59.0 meters at Mt SAC Relays at the Hilmer Lodger Stadium, Krishna hurled the discuss to a distance of 59.04 meters.
She finished fourth, behind Stephanie Brown Trafton (61.77), Aretha Thurmond (61.52) and Summer Pierson (59.42), all from the US.
Apart from Krishna, men discus thrower Vikas Gowda, triple jumper Renjith Maheshwary, long jumper Anju Bobby George and heptathlete Susmita Singha Roy have already qualified for the Beijing Olympics.
