'Double-bogey' ends Jyoti's show at tied 21st, Kapur tied 69th
Limerick, Ireland, May 21 (UNI) A double-bogey on the last hole dashed ace golfer Jyoti Randhawa's hopes of a top-10 finish, as he carded a dismal three-over 75 in difficult conditions to nosedive nine rungs to tied 21st spot after the final round in Irish Open at Adare Manor Golf Resorts near here.
Fresh from winning the DLF Masters at home, Randhawa, tied 12th after third round, could manage only a solitary birdie against two bogeys and a double-bogey to aggregate six-over 294.
After barely making the cut, compatriot Shiv Kapur carded a dismal identical fourth round score of three-over 75, mixing six bogeys against three birdies to total a nightmarish 17-over 305.
He was languishing at the bottom of the leaderboard at tied 69th spot.
Meanwhile, highest-ranked Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh had missed the half-way cut after a nightmarish 10-over 82.
Atop the charts, overnight leader Padraig Harrington of Ireland held his nerves to win a sudden-death playoff against Briton Bradley Dredge to end a long-standing record by becoming the first home winner of the Irish Open for 25 years.
Harrington needed a par at the first extra hole to dispose of the obdurate Dredge, when both finished on five-under 283, four strokes ahead of the field.
The 2006 European Number one became the first Irishman to win his national Open since John O'Leary's 1982 success.
The Dubliner was cheered almost every step of the way and was quick to acknowledge the home support.
