Double crown for Pudduchery teams

Lucknow, Oct 19 (UNI) The boys' and girls' teams of Pudduchery wore the crowns of the 17th National Sub Junior Atya Patya Championship, which concluded at the Northern Railway Stadium here today.

Hosts Uttar Pradesh boys' and Maharashtra girls' teams won the runners up places in their respective categories.

In the boys final encounter, Pudduchery beat hosts UP at 15-12, 25-19 and for the third place game Andhra Pradesh beat Maharashtra 14-12, 13-08.

In the girls category final, Pudduchery outclassed Maharashtra by 30-24, 29-12.

Hosts UP and Karnataka were declared joint winners as their match remained tied at 12-15, 25-19 and 15-15.

Earlier in the semi-finals, UP boys beat Maharashtra 15-17, 11-07, 21-09 and Pudduchery beat AP at 13-11, 16-12 while in the girls section Pudduchery beat UP 23-09, 30-09.

Maharashtra beat Karnataka at 15-2, 19-09.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Chandra Prakash gave away the prizes.
