Double delight for Punjab in Men's long jump event

Madurai, Jun 18 (UNI) Maha Singh and Shamsher Pratap Singh of Punjab clinched Gold and Silver medals, respectively in the finals of Men's Long Jump event in the 48th National Iinter-State senior athletics championship at MGR grounds here last night.

While Maha Singh scaled 7.57 m to bag the gold, Shamsher Pratap Singh finished second with 7.56 m to win the silver. Rajeev Kumar of Delhi took the bronze with 7.51 m.

In the Women's 400 m Run, Mandeep Kaur of Punjab created a new Meet Record by clocking 51.74 sec, erasing the previous record held by Olympian Shiny Wilson (52.20 sec). Chitra K Soman (Jharkhand) finished second with a timing of 52.71 sec, followed by S Geetha of Andhra Pradesh 53.89 sec.
