DPS, Modern School excel in CBSE NZ Chess

Chandigarh, Sep 17 (UNI) Delhi Public School (DPS), Mathura Road and Modern School, New Delhi, cornered glory by winning the Under-14 and Under-19 titles in the Central Board of Secondary Education North Zone (I) Inter School Chess Tournament at St Joseph's Senior Secondary School here today.

DPS and Sanskriti School (Delhi) were tied with 16 points each after the final round (fifth) match today. In the tie-breaker DPS secured 63.5 points and Sanskriti School logged 59.5 points. On the basis of the tie-breaker rule, DPS occupied the top position.

In their final round, DPS defeated Salwan Public School (Delhi) by 53.5 points. Vasant Valley School and Modern School, both of Delhi, finished third and fourth with 14.5 apiece. The issue was also resolved through tie-breaker.

Meanwhile, in the Under-19 category, New Delhi's Modern School and Lawrence School lifted the winners and runner-up trophies with 16 and 14 points each. JD Taytler School got the third posiiton.

D R Yadav, CBSE joint director, regional office, Panchkula, distributed the prizes. Hosts St Joseph's Director-Principal Rupinder Singh and CBSE observer from Delhi RS Tiwari were also present on the occasion.
