“The Khelo India Annual Calendar is not just a schedule but it is a strategic blueprint strengthening India’s domestic competition structure for transforming India into a global sporting powerhouse,” declared Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon’ble Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, as he unveiled the Annual Calendar under the Khelo India initiative.
With this major announcement, the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), Government of India, has set the wheels in motion for a transformative year-long roadmap to galvanise the country’s grassroots sporting infrastructure and athlete development programmes.

In what is being hailed as a milestone moment for Indian sports, the calendar outlines a systematic structure of competitions aimed at year-round engagement, regional inclusion, and talent identification. This bold new direction reflects the central government’s vision of transforming India into a global sporting giant—one that thrives on inclusivity, diversity, and sustained excellence.
The calendar rollout is more than just a schedule-it is a reaffirmation of India's growing confidence in its sporting capabilities. "Over the past decade, Indian sports have undergone a remarkable transformation under the able leadership of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji," said Dr. Mandaviya. "We have created a dynamic and inclusive sporting ecosystem with regular national-level competitions under the Khelo India initiative."
He further emphasised the government's long-term vision, stating, "Taking this vision forward, we will soon introduce a series of Khelo India Games and other competitions throughout the year - including formats like the Khelo India Beach Games (KIBG), Khelo India School Games (KISG), Khelo India Water Sports, Khelo India North-East Games, amongst others. These events will be pivotal in identifying, nurturing, and preparing India's young talent."
This expansive framework is part of India's preparations towards global sporting showcases, including the Commonwealth Games 2030 and the Olympic Games 2036.
The Khelo India programme already boasts four prominent national-level Games-the Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India University Games, Khelo India Para Games, and Khelo India Winter Games. Each of these events is conducted in collaboration with National Sports Federations (NSFs), ensuring adherence to international standards and best practices. These structured events are key platforms for long-term athlete development and feed into national and international representation.
With the Annual Calendar, the Khelo India umbrella will now cover even more diverse formats and regions. From tribal belts to coastal towns, from Himalayan ranges to school corridors-the initiative promises to leave no talent untouched and no region unrepresented.
Special focus will be directed toward the Khelo India School Games (KISG). This ambitious endeavour follows a tiered competition format-starting from the district level, moving through the states, and culminating in national-level contests. This model ensures that budding athletes receive structured exposure from an early age, equipping them with the confidence and skill set required for global stages.
Also on the agenda are unique additions like the Khelo India Tribal Games, Khelo India Martial Art Games, and Khelo India Swadeshi Games. These formats will revive and mainstream India's indigenous sports and martial traditions, many of which are already gaining international attention via platforms like the Asian Games.
To make this vision a reality, each event in the calendar will be anchored by designated Host States or Union Territories. This decentralised model not only decentralises opportunity but also incentivises states to bolster local sports infrastructure. It promises long-term dividends by spurring sports tourism, encouraging investment, and enabling regions to grow into hubs for national and international competitions.
Already in 2025, three major events have concluded with resounding success:
Up next, the inaugural Khelo India Beach Games (KIBG) will take place in Diu from 19th to 25th May 2025, promising both sporting action and coastal allure.
This evidence-based calendar draws from past experiences and adapts to seasonal, regional, and sport-specific considerations. With improved visibility for sponsors and strategic media engagement, the initiative promises increased youth mobilisation and stronger community involvement.
A streamlined proposal system is also being created, allowing states to express interest in hosting events, thereby ensuring smoother execution and collaborative participation.
With the unveiling of this Annual Calendar, Dr. Mandaviya and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports have laid out a compelling blueprint for the future. “India is on the move, and the youth are at the heart of this sporting revolution,” Dr. Mandaviya declared.
Indeed, the journey to transform India into a sporting superpower is well underway—and with every game, every arena, and every young dreamer, the nation edges closer to its sporting destiny.
