Dustin Johnson Invited To Compete In 2025 PGA Championship At Quail Hollow Club

Dustin Johnson has been invited to the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow after his previous exemption expired. The LIV Golf member aims for success alongside other top players.

Dustin Johnson has been granted a special exemption to participate in the upcoming PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte. The 40-year-old, who plays for LIV Golf, has previously won two major titles: the 2016 US Open and the 2020 Masters. His Masters victory allowed him automatic entry into five subsequent PGA Championships, but that exemption ended last year.

Johnson's participation is part of a broader inclusion of LIV Golf players in the tournament. Sixteen players from the Saudi-backed league are set to compete at Quail Hollow, maintaining last year's numbers. Notable names include Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Tyrrell Hatton, and Phil Mickelson.

Dustin Johnson's Special Invite to PGA Championship

The PGA Championship does not have a separate category for LIV players, unlike other major tournaments. Instead, it follows a similar approach to the Masters by offering special exemptions. Kerry Haigh, championships director for the PGA of America, explained this approach: "That's what we have done the last three years and continue to do so," Haigh stated. "We have that flexibility to be able to invite those players who are deserving from whichever tour."

Xander Schauffele will defend his title after winning last year's championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. Joining him are world number one Scottie Scheffler and recent Masters champion Rory McIlroy. Rickie Fowler also received a special exemption despite his current ranking of No. 125 globally.

The 2025 PGA Championship is scheduled from May 15-18. Johnson's record includes 24 PGA Tour victories and three additional wins since joining LIV Golf. This season, he achieved top-10 finishes in two LIV events but missed the cut at April's Masters. His best results in past PGA Championships were second-place finishes in 2019 and 2020.

This year's tournament promises excitement with top golfers from various tours competing on one stage. The inclusion of LIV Golf players adds another layer of intrigue as they vie for one of golf's prestigious titles alongside established stars.
