Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith recently underwent surgery to repair a torn triceps but is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2025 NFL season.
The injury occurred during the Eagles' commanding 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025. Despite the setback, Smith is on track to return for Philadelphia's title defense.

The 24-year-old linebacker suffered the injury while chasing Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes but fought through the pain to finish the game. Playing 54% of the defensive snaps, Smith was part of an Eagles defense that dominated Kansas City, limiting them to just 23 total yards in the first half and keeping them without a third-down conversion until late in the third quarter.
Smith had a strong 2024 season, finishing with 6.5 sacks, 42 tackles, 11 quarterback hits, and 24 quarterback pressures in 16 games, including 10 starts. His contributions helped Philadelphia establish itself as the league's top defense, allowing the fewest total yards in the NFL.
Drafted 30th overall in 2023 out of Georgia, Smith has quickly grown into a key piece of the Eagles' defense. Over two seasons, he has recorded 7.5 sacks and 60 tackles in 33 games. His speed, strength, and relentless energy have made him a force on the field, earning praise from teammates and coaches.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni commended Smith's toughness and dedication, highlighting his work ethic and impact on the defense. "Nolan gives everything he has on every play. His effort and intensity are what set him apart," Sirianni said during the team's playoff run.
With surgery behind him, Smith now focuses on rehab and getting back to full strength. The Eagles remain optimistic about his recovery and expect him to be a key contributor as they aim to defend their Super Bowl title in 2025.
