East Zone, South win inter region matches

Bangalore, Aug 4 (UNI) East Zone defeated West Zone 2-1, while South trounced Central 7-2 in the All India Inter-Region SAI Senior Boys Hockey Tournament played at the KSHA grounds here today.

In the inaugural match East, after conceding a 0-1 lead at half time, bounced back with striker Aijuh Ekka netting an equaliser at 42 minute and Markus Topnp scoring the winner at 55th minute. Imran Khan scored the lone goal in 14th minute for West Zone.

In the second match, South lads repeatedly sounded boards right from first minute when Nithin Thimmaiah scored a field goal. He was well supported by V Vinod Rayer who scored a brace by netting the ball in 10th and 29th minutes.

The winners, who were leading 5-2 at the breather, scored two more goals in the second half.
