Nikhat Zareen has made a strong start to the campaign on the first day of the Elorda Cup 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Zareen secured a 5-0 win against Kazakhstan's Rakhymberdi Zhansaya. This victory marks an impressive beginning for the Indian boxer at this prestigious tournament.

Minakshi, fighting in the 48kg category, also advanced to the next round following her 4-1 victory over Kazakhstan's Gassymova Roxana. Adding to India's success, Anamika defeated Zhumabayeva Arailym in the first round of the 50kg category bout with a referee stop the contest (RSC) win, highlighting the strength of India's female boxers at the event.
However, not all outcomes were in favour of the Indian contingent as some of them suffered defeats. Ishmeet Singh in the 75kg category and Sonia in the 54kg category faced defeats. Singh lost 0-5 against Kazakhstan's Armanuly Armat, while Sonia was defeated by China's Chang Yuan with the same scoreline. These results underline the challenging nature of the competition at the Elorda Cup.

The competition continues with more Indian boxers set to showcase their talent in the coming days. Six-time Asian Championships medallist Shiva Thapa will be fighting in the 63.5kg category. He will be joined by Sanjay in the 80kg category and Gaurav Chauhan in the 92+kg category, alongside three other Indian participants scheduled to compete on Tuesday.
The Boxing Federation of India has sent a strong 21-member squad to Kazakhstan, underlining the importance of the Elorda Cup. This event has attracted top talent from boxing powerhouses including Kazakhstan, China, India, Japan, and Uzbekistan, making it a crucial platform for Indian boxers to test their skills.
