End of the road for Pollock?

By Staff

New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Former South African allrounder Shaun Pollock may be on the verge of quitting the game after deciding not to return for the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Pollock had turned out for the Mumbai Indians - with whom he had a one year contract - in the inaugural edition of the lucrative T20 tournament.

''I have reached a stage where I think I have played enough cricket,'' Pollock told Cricinfo. ''My contract with the Mumbai Indians was for one year and I was very happy with the way things went. I enjoyed every bit of the IPL experience but I want to stop playing now. But I will come back in some capacity.'' The announcement has come as a shock for Mumbai Indian officials who are determined to convince the South African to reconsider his decision.

''We are in talks with him. We understand his position but we are positive we will be able to convince him to reconsider,'' a Mumbai Indians' spokesperson said.

There were indications that Pollock might quit the game during the first season of the IPL, when he told Sachin Tendulkar that he might not return next year. But the senior players, including Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya, had convinced the 35-year-old to continue playing at the time.
