England captain Terry to have surgery on cheek

By Staff

LONDON, Sep 30 (Reuters) Chelsea and England captain John Terry will have an operation on Sunday after fracturing his cheekbone during Chelsea's 0-0 Premier League draw against Fulham.

Chelsea communications director Simon Greenberg said the time of his operation had been changed from yesterday to today.

''He will now see the specialist tonight and have the operation,'' Greenberg said yesterday.

Fulham striker Clint Dempsey connected with Terry's cheekbone with his elbow as both rose for a ball after three minutes of the Premier League match.

''It's a depressed fracture of the cheekbone,'' Greenberg said.

adding it was too early to say how long Terry would be sidelined for.

The injury will be of great concern to England coach Steve McClaren whose side plays two Euro 2008 qualifiers in October against Estonia and Russia.
