England coach Moores, skipper KP settle their differences

By Staff

London, Aug.6 : England cricket team coach Peter Moores and captain Kevin Pietersen have reportedly settled their differences ahead of the Oval Test against the South Africans, which begins from Thursday.

Moores has insisted that he has no problem with KP.

According to The Sun, both have not always seen eye-to-eye, with KP expressing the view in the recent past that he is and has been unsure of Moore's coaching approach. In fact, KP believes that Moore's coaching methods have been responsible for the team's series defeat against the Proteas.

On Sunday, however, both had an hour-long clear-the-air talks, which according to the tabloid, has helped to restore their relationship ahead of the fourth and final NPOWER Test at the Oval.

Pietersen said: "We are united now," and added that his attitude towards Moores will be different and more helpful now he is in charge rather than just a player.

Pietersen was unveiled at Lord's yesterday as England's Test and one-day skipper following the resignations of Michael Vaughan and Paul Collingwood.

KP and Vaughan are among the senior England players who have endured a strained relationship with Moores.

Pietersen said: "Everything is positive and it's just about making sure we achieve what we want. I think my outlook as captain rather than as a player will be totally different. Peter likes to challenge us on a daily basis. There are a lot of strong characters in the England dressing room and opinionated people. I'm convinced we can have a good relationship. I wouldn't be here as captain if I wasn't 100 per cent confident of that."

There have also been doubts about whether Moores can inspire the players and there has often been surprise at his temper outbursts.

National selector Geoff Miller said: "We wanted a captain who could lead the team in all three forms of cricket and bring fresh enthusiasm and ideas to the role."

There is a personality clash between the pair but under-pressure Moores is adamant he will not try to tame Pietersen's flamboyant ways.

He said: "What I like about Kevin is he has a view. That's going to be important in his captaincy. He's passionate. He's committed about the way he goes about his cricket."
