England's World Cup has not ended after draw against US: Carragher

London, Jun 14 (ANI): Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has said that the 1-1 draw with the USA in the World Cup opener was not ideal, and added that it is not the end of the tournament for England.

He urged everyone to cast their minds back to how England started the 1990 World Cup in Italy and, importantly, how they finished.

"I watched on TV before I came here our first game in 1990 against the Republic of Ireland. We were lucky to get a draw that night - but that's all forgotten now isn't it?" The Sun quoted Carragher, as saying.

England players upped their performance after dismal opening display in 1990 to march to the semi-finals. So Carragher remains positive but accepts England must raise their game.

"You have to move on but our display must improve. You cannot say it is only results that matter and that the performances don't. Because if you don't play well continuously, you'll come unstuck.

"But let's not get carried away. It's not as if it was a disastrous performance. It was a decent display. We had chances that on another day we'd put away," he said. (ANI)
