Esports World Cup 2024: Indian Esports Prepares for Game-Changing Impact

The Saudi Arabian Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, made a historic speech announcing the development of the Esports World Cup, which will begin in Riyadh in the summer of 2024. The tournament is expected to change the face of Esports and open up new avenues for global gamers to compete and have opportunities.

The famed Esports event, Gamers8, which takes place in Saudi Arabia, will be replaced by the Esports World Cup. Twenty distinct tournaments spanning games including League of Legends, Fortnite, DOTA 2, FIFA 23, Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG Mobile, and Starcraft II were available at this year's Gamers8 event.

In addition, the event featured the biggest prize pool in Esports tournament history-$45 million-an incredible feat. The official announcement of the Esports World Cup states that it will feature the most played games worldwide in every genre and have the biggest prize pool in the history of the competition, even though the titles have not yet been revealed.

Niko Partners' 'India Games Market Report 2023', which was released recently, indicates that 96.8% of Indian gamers play on smartphones or tablets, making the country a dominant mobile-first market. It is anticipated that Indian Esports athletes may diversify into different gaming games that are not as well-liked in the community in order to gain a position at the tournament, given the chance to play in such a prominent event with sizeable prize pools. Consequently, the Esports sector in the nation will see expansion and diversification.

"The announcement of the Esports World Cup is indeed a historic moment for the global Esports community," said Mr. Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India and Vice-President of Asian Esports Federation, discussing his thoughts on the Indian video game community broadening its horizons and embracing PC, console, and mobile gaming titles.

This competition will act as a spark for development and transformation in India as well as on the international Esports scene. This event's enormous prize fund and wide range of titles will surely inspire our Esports athletes and aspiring gamers to expand their horizons and explore new games, especially in our nation where gaming is primarily concentrated on mobile devices. The Esports World Cup, in our opinion, is a fantastic platform that brings together the major stakeholders in the business while also celebrating eSports.

Gamers8 statistics indicates that the 2023 event attracted 1.3 billion cumulative views, with a high concurrent viewing of one million. 2.09 million views and 3.8 billion impressions were received overall. Notable companies including Pepsico, Razer, Aramco, Adidas, and many more international brands were also official sponsors of the event.

These figures are anticipated to be surpassed by the Esports World Cup, giving Indian competitors significant exposure and respect. This would definitely help Indian players and the community by drawing in additional funding from sponsors, established companies, and venture capitalists.

"Esports has always brought together ardent players from all around the world and crossed national boundaries. With the news that Saudi Arabia will host the Esports World Cup, the Indian Esports scene is about to undergo a radical change. In addition to providing our immensely gifted athletes with a global platform to display their abilities, the competition will encourage cross-border cooperation, further the expansion of Esports in India, and encourage a new generation of gamers to follow their passions.

The Indian esports ecosystem is poised to take off, and this is the perfect moment to make it happen. "Let us ascend, surpass limits, and reshape the meaning of belonging to the worldwide Esports community," declared Animesh Agarwal, also known as 8Bit Thug, who is also the co-founder of S8UL and the founder and CEO of 8Bit Creatives.

India's esports industry has grown significantly in the last several years, and its players have achieved great success in international tournaments. The country sent an unprecedented 15-person team to the Asian Games 2022, where they competed in games including League of Legends, DOTA 2, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, and EA Sports FC Online. Esports has previously competed at the Commonwealth Esports Championships in Birmingham in 2022, when the Indian DOTA 2 team even managed to win an impressive bronze medal.

The intentions for the formation of the Olympic Esports Games were revealed by IOC President Thomas Bach during the 141st session of the IOC, which was recently held in Mumbai. Saudi Arabia's sponsorship of the Esports World Cup will provide India's esports players with an additional international stage on which to demonstrate their abilities.

"As an Esports athlete, I see this as a window of opportunity for every gamer across India to proudly represent the country and make a name for themselves on the global stage," said Mayank Prajapati, also known as MiKeYROG, who competed for India in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition at the recently concluded Asian Games 2022.

This may be the year when Esports players take centre stage, much like in traditional sports World Cups where previously unknown sportsmen become household names and bring their country to triumph. Indian gamers might be inspired by the Esports World Cup to challenge themselves in different games, which would increase the pool of talent and drive the industry as a whole to new heights.

Furthermore, the Esports World Cup may help India establish itself as a major player in the global Esports industry.
