Exciting golf on cards as Indian Masters tees off

By Staff

New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) Exciting golf is on the crds as star studded Emaar MGF Indian Masters gets underway here from tomorrow.

The Masters is a huge opportunity for several Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) members to make their mark on the international stage.

PGTI members Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa, Shiv Kapur and Gaurav Ghei have already shown their mettle at the international level.

Mukesh Kumar, a double-winner in the 2007-08 season of the PGTI is ready for the big challenge. He's been in tremendous form in the recent past ''The Emaar MGF Indian Masters is huge for Indian golf as it will take the sport to another level in this country. The prize money is a huge incentive for Indian professionals to perform well. I feel confident going into this tournament as my game is back to its best and can only get better.'' Rahul Ganapathy has been another double-winner on the PGTI this season. He has been on a roll since winning his first professional title at The Global Green Bangalore Open. ''Earlier I used to succumb to pressure whenever I was in contention and as a result had many runners-up finishes. But now it's a totally different story. One win can do wonders to a player's confidence,'' said Ganapathy.

The professional from Mysore added, ''Playing at the Emaar MGF Indian Masters is like a dream come true.'' The PGTI Order of Merit winner Ashok Kumar would use local knowledge to his advantage during the Emaar MGF Indian Masters since he is competing at a course where he has played most of his golf.

''Indians should do well at the Emaar MGF Indian Masters as they are used to the course. It's not an easy course with narrow fairways and jungle on either side. It takes time to get used to.

I have played well at the DGC in the past and would like to do the same during the Emaar MGF Indian Masters,'' said Ashok.
