Fabricio Andrade Certain He Will Cause Problems For Jonathan Haggerty At ONE Fight Night 16

By Mike Joseph

ONE Bantamweight MMA World Champion Fabricio Andrade has the chance to make history at ONE Fight Night 16. And he believes his dangerous fighting style has all the ingredients to overcome divisional Muay Thai king Jonathan Haggerty this weekend.

"Wonder Boy" and Haggerty collide this Saturday, 4 November, in the main event of ONE Fight Night 16 in Bangkok, Thailand's Lumpinee Boxing Stadium with the vacant ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title hanging in the balance.

The affair was first set to take place in early October at ONE Fight Night 15. However, a change to the card set the bout back almost four weeks. While fans have had to wait for the coveted clash, Andrade thinks it's only allowed for a closer tie between himself and Haggerty.

"I believe it won't change anything. I had been training to fight for a long time. First I would fight in August, then it changed to October, and now it has been decided that the fight will take place in November," Andrade said.

"So, I was already prepared. But of course, an extra month of training is a lot of time, and I can add a few more things to my game. I believe it for him too, especially because he has difficulty making the weight in the division. So I believe this postponement will be good for him too."

Before Andrade conquered the all-encompassing sport, his first love was Muay Thai. The Brazilian brute amassed a record of 40-3 in the "art of eight limbs" and kickboxing before transitioning to 4-ounce gloves and soaring to the top of ONE's bantamweight MMA division.

So while it is a fact that Haggerty has hung around the striking realm much longer than Andrade, "Wonder Boy" hasn't gotten flustered by the recent accolades of "The General."

Instead, he feels that his striking prowess is still strong enough to trouble Haggerty. And "Wonder Boy" has taken lessons from the Brit's previous World Title defeats to hopefully power himself to becoming a two-sport World Champion this weekend.

"I will definitely be a big threat to him. As I said, I have a lot of power in my blows and you could see in previous fights that Haggerty doesn't assimilate blows from athletes who have a lot of power very well," Andrade said.

"This was clear in the fight against Rodtang, where he was unable to find his footing in the fight. And I believe that with me he will have the same problem."
